9:50 pm - recs and stuff
I've been enjoying all the CFTC stories and media. It's been so long since they were all in one place!

I thought both the Sandys were off in other fandoms now, so I was surprised to run across "I'm With Stupid", written with throughadoor, and circusgirl's outtake from it. Very bitter, but still good. Also bitter but good, a little JC/Bond ficlet.

An amusing little ficlet about unexpected honesty.

"Did you ever wonder if an innocent, educational, children's show could be turned into a hotbed of gay sex". beatpropx does the children's show.

shinetheway wrote a couple of hot JuC ficlets, a first time and a JC teasing Justin one scattered through her journal.

marythefan's little Lambs ficlet.

This timbertrick amused me way, way too much.

11:44 pm - pink tentacles that purr
nopseud is an evil genius. There's no other phrase for it. Only she could write sweet goopy tentacle porn. It's all part of the best challenge ever.

Well, I have read the post of hate and loathing, and I just boggle. The sheer amount of mental energy people spend on hating on people they could just defriend. If you don't like someone's picture posts or X days to PoA or their icons or think their posts are depressing, LJ has fine tools for you! And then there was the person that explained that they still wanted to complain about people they had defriended. I have this image of people repeatedly stabbing themselves in the head and declaiming on how awful the knife is for giving them pain.

One of the reasons I ended up so firmly in popslash after my dalliance in Lotrips was that it was LJ centered. To keep up in Lotrips, you had to follow certain lists, where those who partook of The Crazy posted extensively. On LJ you could construct a peaceful universe where kerfluffles mostly impacted you as faint wavelets from distant shores. Whenever a lj brought more Crazy than it did fun, a couple of button clicks took care of the problem. I highly recommend the technique; it is at once more civilized and more effective than the head-stabbing technique. Unless you are a masochist, in which case you should be saying nice things about the knife that brings the happy pain. Or whatever.

And really, doing it anonymously? Wimps! Get some spine, bitches, and shout your Crazy out in public. The bathroom stall rant is *so* grade school.

Like all wise people, you are of course following valiumbitch and ride_it, but I have to especially recommend this entry, where you discover why JC should never give dinner parties, and this one. Justin and JC arguing in comments!

I'm alive and still a popslash fan, if anyone was concerned :)

I meant to write about the Fillmore concert, but I think everyone's covered the high points. Possibly I'll write up something later today. But for now, recs!

The fabulous Haircuts has been finished, so if you haven't started it because it was an WIP, what are you waiting for? Justin's a vegan, Chris writes a column, the entire popslash crew are living in Boston... it's an amazingly fun AU.

bossymarmalade wrote three short, but competely dead-on Justin/Chris conversations. Everyone should help harass her into writing the other 21. Because there is never enough good Justin/Chris dialogue.

And synecdochic has _this is not the love scene_, lovely sharp edged JuC.

Five days to JC! Anyone planning to meet up beforehand in SF?

Recs:

nopseud has been writing fabulous porn snippets; if you are reading them, she's got a new one and if you haven't, you should start at the beginning.

Baby Lambs and a watching Chris! What could be better?

And Princess Bride Sync. *Princess Bride*, people.

And it's just a snippet, but if it's all going to be this good, I'm going to die. Synecdochic's working out the details of her new epic.

This news quote amused me way too much:

"The commander of British troops in southern Iraq, Brig Nick Carter, admitted that he would be powerless to prevent the overthrow of Coalition forces if the Shia majority in Basra rose up in rebellion. Brig Carter, of the 20 Armoured Brigade, who has been in Iraq for four months, said British forces would stay in Basra with the consent of local Shia leaders, or not at all."

General Nick Carter! In his spiffy battle dress uniform! Why has no one ever done the sparkly military AU?

5:09 pm - whee!
My JC tickets have arrived. Of course, what's printed on them isn't actually the same place or time he's going to be playing at, but they promise me that I can still get in at the Warfield with 'em.

Some news that should make everyone happy -- apparently JC *did* get a presenter slot at the Grammys, he was at rehearsal tonight. From a strictly PR point of view, this probably all worked out better than the original set up; he got a lot more publicity and now he'll be at the Grammys to talk about it. But I still really would have liked to see him perform, especially the National Anthem. And he definitely would have rather been singing in Hawaii than sitting in LA.

But yay! He won't be sitting at home moping! Just, please, wear your damn glasses, JC. You look smart! and you don't sound like a space cadet because you can't read the teleprompter. There's a free lazik surgery in your gift basket, too.

JC is the lead story on Pardon the Interruption. Some of the west coast people might be able to catch it on ESPNews or ESPN2 -- I missed it because DirecTV runs on an east coast schedule. If someone can mpeg it I'd love 'em :)

Apparently this is JC on the radio update night for me. JoJo is going to talk to JC in a couple of minutes on KIIS. Not streaming right now, so information only good for LA area people.

There's a little discussion about JC being pulled on Pardon the Interruption on ESPN today, 5:30. Also gets rerun later in the evening on ESPN2 and ESPNews, for those on the east coast or with DirecTV.

Not to put a damper on the logical fallacies running rampant today, but cause, fault, malice, and intent are not the same thing, and where blame is assigned depends on proper definitions of them. Justin is undoubtedly the cause of the Pro Bowl ban -- that'd be his hand ripping off Janet's clothes and starting the whole cascade. Justin just surely had no malice towards JC in this -- does anyone doubt that there was anything going on in his head besides 'Whoo! Janet!' and 'Whoo! Publicity!'? I even went hunting through the friendslist of some of the people most vocal about attacking that and found not a single accusation of malice. I'm sure there's one that exists somewhere out there, but mostly people seem to be attacking a straw man.

But lack of malice does not mean no fault. The guy who sets off fireworks in a field in the middle of the California dry season probably isn't thinking anything but "Whoo! Sparklies!" but that doesn't mean if houses burn down that people don't get to blame him. And before the posts about 'She said Justin was as bad as an arsonist!' start, that's an example, not a equation.

So it comes down to our fourth exciting contestant, intent. If Justin thought he was merely ripping away a false front, he's not at fault. If he was an equal partner with Janet, well, yes, it is his fault. Along with Janet, and to a lesser degree the media et al that have been helping the fire along. It's quite a drunken party out there in that dry field.

So people are being accused of tinhattery because they don't believe that the spin from a star's PR is necessarily entirely truthful. And that's just nuts, and unworthy of some of the smart people that have been ranting about it.
